PITTSBURGH — Elvis was in the building Tuesday night.
Penguins broadcasting legend Mike Lange was honored with thunderous applause and a special video tribute at PPG Paints Arena during a break in the action against the Dallas Stars.
After the video, Lange hauled himself out of his seat, waved as the crowd clapped and cheered, and then pointed to his eye, made a heart symbol and then pointed at the crowd, telling them “I love you.”

Tuesday’s game was billed as “Mike Lange Night” at the arena. The legendary voice of the Penguins announced in August that he was retiring from his play-by-play duties.

Known across the sports world for his colorful phrases - “Slap me silly, Sidney,” “Get in the fast lane grandma,” and “Scratch my back with a hacksaw” - Lange has been a fixture of the team’s radio and television broadcasts since 1974. He was behind the mic for every one of the Penguins’ five Stanley Cup wins.
