PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford pulled the trigger on a minor trade Friday afternoon, acquiring defenseman John Nyberg from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Oula Palve.
Nyberg, 23, will report to the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins. He is signed through the end of this season and will make $745,000 if called up to the NHL level.
Nyberg appeared in 19 games for the Texas Stars this season, tying career highs in goals (2) and assists (4). He was drafted in the sixth round (165th overall) in 2014 by the Dallas Stars.
The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 24.
