Police are warning the public about counterfeit Pittsburgh Penguins tickets ahead of Wednesday's playoff game against the Philadelphia Flyers at PPG Paints Arena.

“Patrons who wish to purchase tickets off Craigslist and on the street outside the adjacent area of PPG Arena need to be cognizant,” Pittsburgh police Detective Matthew Malloy said. “I advise all parties who purchase tickets to at least identify their salesperson through a valid photo identification.”

Pittsburgh police are hoping to not have a repeat of last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs when it comes to fake tickets.

Cristyn Zett, Pittsburgh police Zone 2 commander, told Channel 11 that 30 to 50 fake tickets were reported for each playoff game last year.

Scalpers with a vendor's license from the city of Pittsburgh are allowed to sell tickets in designated areas, but police said they should have their license with them.

"When you meet people meet them at the arena look for a vendor license and ask for ID, photo ID so who they are so if something does happen you can come back," Zett said.

Fans are advised to buy tickets directly through the Penguins from reputable websites such as Stubhub.com or Seatgeek.com
