Pittsburgh celebrates Polish culture at local university

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh residents spent Sunday afternoon celebrating Polish culture at a local university.

The Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh was busy with people enjoying Polish, Lithuanian and Carpatho-Rusyn music on Sunday.

Multiple cultural displays were placed throughout the space. Folk-art demonstrations were also held throughout the day.

Attendants had a wide variety of activities to participate in, including egg decorating, cooking, craft building and wool spinning.

Anyone with an appetite could check out the Polish bakery.

A large number of organizations came together to make the event happen including the Polish Nationality Room Committee, Lithuanian Nationality Room Committee, Carpatho-Rusyn Society Of America, Nationality Rooms & Intercultural Exchange Programs, Center For Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies, Lithuaniuan Citizens Society Of Western, Pa. and the Polish Falcon’s of America.

This year’s theme was to allow people to celebrate an old-world Christmas with new-world traditions.

The celebration ran from noon to 5 p.m.
