Boil water advisory lifted for Ambridge Water Authority customers

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — UPDATE (3/3/22): The boil water advisory has been lifted, officials announced Thursday morning.

The Ambridge Area School District said it will return to in-person learning on Friday.

ORIGINAL STORY: There is case after case of water dropped into thousands of Ambridge residents’ cars.

“It’s been hard. I dropped a couple days of work because I can’t wash clothes. I am afraid to wash clothes. I haven’t brushed my teeth today,” said Renee Douglass, an Ambridge resident.

In just five days, the fire department handed out nearly 68,000 bottles of drinking water after the water plant broke a line.

“I think about the third world countries this is their life and we should appreciate all we have,” Douglass said.

Residents are handling it well as the Ambridge Water Authority said it likely will be at least two more days before all the water is safe to drink again. But now that break is having a domino effect at the Ambridge High School.

“This would be the last thing you think would shut down opening night. This is crazy. A pandemic maybe but a water line break absolutely not,” said Jennifer Andreozzi, a Baden Parent.

The entire school district is learning virtually because of the water situation, leaving the high school musical crew nowhere to rehearse with opening night on Thursday.

Now this group is fearing they won’t be able to go on if they can’t get back in the buildings.

“It breaks my heart for these kids because it’s imperative to get in the school to practice on their home stage. They’ve sacrificed so much personal sacrifices. It’s just time they get back in the school,” Andreozzi said.

The water authority told Channel 11 the plant is back operating at 100%, but now they have to undergo testing. The first test was already dropped off at the lab, but the DEP requires two tests 24 hours apart before the water is deemed safe.
