For the second year in a row, Wexford native Dan Smyers, of country music duo Dan + Shay, is a Grammy winner -- but just days before their big win, Smyers took time to send a hometown thank you.

The singer/writer graduated from North Allegheny high school in 2006, and is one of nine North Allegheny alumni to receive the school’s 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award.

The North Allegheny Foundation held its award gala held on Friday, posting a heartfelt thank you to Twitter the Saturday morning, and can we say, Pittsburgh Proud?

Not only did Smyers gush over his high school, teachers and hometown, but he showed his true Pittsburgh pride in the last seconds, saying, “Go Pens, go Pirates, go Steelers! I still bleed black and gold. I love you all. See you soon!”

Dan + Shay are set to bring their first arena tour to Pittsburgh later this year.

The two are signed to Warner Bros. Records Nashville and took home the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/ Performance Sunday night.
