Zombies and shopping malls? All too familiar in Pittsburgh lore, as the Monroeville Mall gears up for its annual Living Dead Weekend with a twist.

This year, the “Cover-Your-Face” Zombie Marketplace will take place on Nov. 7 at the Monroeville Mall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and feature fan-favorite scary-themed merchandise, crafts, art and food.

In addition to that, actors from George Romero’s “of the Dead” film series will be in attendance, including Lenny Lies, Gary Marlatt, John Russo, Melissa Dunlap, Bob Michelucci, and J.R. Bookwalter.

The single-day horror-themed market is also hosting a “Drive & Park Movies at Dark" double feature in the Doubletree Hotel parking lot: “George A. Romero Presents: Deadtime Stories” will be the first film, followed by “Creepshow 2.”

“We’re excited to be able to see everyone and offer an opportunity to support our vendors at this new type of event,” said event organizer Kevin Kriess. “Having to move our full three-day event to next summer created the chance to put together something safe in its place, all while still staying in the spirit of the Monroeville Mall’s heritage as the ‘zombie mecca of the world.’”

The annual three-day festival has been moved to July 2-4, 2021.
