Totopo owner buys former Del’s in Bloomfield for new taco restaurant

PITTSBURGH — The way Juan Grimaldo sees it, he and his family have bought a landmark.

Now, comes the process of replacing it with a new restaurant that can come close to the kind of successful run its well-known predecessor had.

As the owner of the popular restaurants Totopo Mexican Kitchen and Bar in Mount Lebanon and Tocayo Taqueria & Tequila in Shadyside, Grimaldo is preparing to expand with a third restaurant in Bloomfield after recently closing on buying the building at 4428 Liberty Ave.

It’s a location near the Bloomfield Bridge and across the street from the neighborhood’s Community Market grocery store at a site expected to undergo a major mixed-use redevelopment.
