WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — A man called his son and stepsons after he shot and killed his wife and before he killed himself early Thursday, state police said.
The Westmoreland County coroner said in a news release the couple's death was a murder-suicide.
Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha said Gregory Monk shot and killed his wife, Patricia Monk, at the couple’s home on Forest Drive in Loyalhanna Township. Gregory Monk then turned the firearm on himself, the coroner said.
Both were pronounced dead at the home.
Channel 11 learned that Greg Monk placed a frantic and remorseful phone call to his son and stepsons, which led to police being called to the home just before midnight.
"We believe he most likely had already shot his wife and at that point in time placed a distress call to each of her sons, ultimately contacting and having a conversation with one of them," said Trooper Stephen Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg barracks.
Neighbors said the couple dated for quite some time before they were married a couple of years ago.
Pennsylvania State Police from Kiski Barracks are investigating. A motive was not known as of Thursday night. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
