PITTSBURGH — On the day of Dec. 27, 15 years ago, Pro Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux came back to the Penguins in grand style.
Lemieux, who retired from hockey in 1997, returned to the ice after a three-and-a-half year absence.

By the year 2000, Lemieux had taken over as the owner of the Penguins, so when he skated in the game against Toronto on December 27th, he became the first owner-player in the modern era of professional sports.
Lemieux always seemed to have a flare for the dramatic, and this game was no exception….
Lemieux assisted on a goal only 33 seconds into his first shift.
He finished with a goal and 2 assists as the Penguins shut out the Maple Leafs 5-0. Lemieux played in only 43 games that season but still finished with 76 points.
