Election judge in Springdale to face charges for being a no-show

SPRINGDALE, Pa. — An election judge will face charges after she did not show up to her assigned polling place when the polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic reported that early-morning voters at the Springdale boro building were redirected to a nearby site, where they voted using emergency ballots.

The election judge was taken into the custody of sheriff’s deputies, according to Allegheny County officials.

Tomazic reported that the woman arrived in Springdale with the deputies at about 10:30 a.m., and she will be charged with failure to perform duties under the election law. Tomazic reported that the election judge said she was sick this morning.

Daniel Copeland, who was originally turned away said he was concerned his vote wouldn’t be counted.

“It's not too reassuring,” he said.

Board of Elections officials said people in Copeland’s case will have their registration verified and their signature checked against the one in the record.

Voting has resumed normally.
