Fire Closes Robinson Township Golden Corral

ROBINSON, Pa.,None — A Robinson Township restaurant is closed for at least the next week after a fire broke out Saturday night during its dinner rush.

Officials said dozens of people were inside The Golden Corral when a fire broke out in the boiler room.

Maida Peterina and Cathy Morrow were two of the customers inside.

"The smoke started coming out a little at a time," Peterina said. "Then, all of a sudden, it started."

"Most of us didn't have dinner," Morrow said. "We got out safely. That was the most important part."

An employee in the restaurant said a fire alarm went off at about 1:30 p.m. Firefighters did not officially connect that to the fire that closed the restaurant later in the evening.

"I had a party of 70 people who were in our back room, and they were very calm about it," said restaurant owner Virginia Whalen. "We opened up the doors, and my employees helped everyone out. There was a lot of smoke."

Officials said one customer was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but that person did not have to go to a hospital.

Whalen said everyone who was in the restaurant at the time will be refunded or offered a free meal at another time.
