UNIONTOWN, Pa.,None — A fire caused damages at a restaurant in North Union Township in Uniontown Tuesday morning.
Police said no one was hurt when the fire broke out at Vinny's Drive-In on Connellsville Road.
The well-known establishment has been part of the Uniontown area since 1967.
The chief of the North Union Fire Department said the fire broke out just before the restaurant was preparing to open for lunch.
"There was a maintenance guy that was sweating some of the pipes. They had a major leak yesterday, and the torch caught the building on fire, and the owner tried to put it out with a garden house and became overcome," said Chief Jim Marnell.
The owner told Channel 11 News reporter Dave Bondy that he does have insurance and plans on rebuilding.
"It was more than a staple in the community because lots of people came here. Where I live I can hear them page the numbers for food," said longtime customer Zelda Moyer.
Moyer said she worried about the employees, who are now without jobs until the business is rebuilt.
"It was good that no one was hurt, but a lot of people lost their jobs," said Moyer.
The owner said he plans on having construction crews look at the damage Wednesday morning, but isn't sure how long it will take to rebuild.
