HERMITAGE, Pa.,None — Employees are still determining what caused a fire at a Mercer County ice cream cone plant.
David George, president of the Joy Cone Co. in Hermitage, said the fire shut down the plant from about 9 p.m. Monday until about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The plant makes cake ice cream cones and larger scrap pieces are broken up and sent to a scrap silo, while smaller pieces are gathered into a dust collector, which is what caught fire Monday night.
George said it's still not clear what caused the fire. The plant has three other dust collectors and is operating normally.
A damage estimate won't be available until officials determine whether the device that caught fire can be salvaged. There was no damage to other areas of the plant.
