BREST, FRANCE — A joyful return yesterday for a replica of a French American-revolution era fighting ship.
The Hermione crossed the Atlantic to visit ports along America's East Coast.
The original three masted frigate brought French general Marquis de Lafayette from France to America in 1780 to help General George Washington fight the British.
The replica left France last April to retrace Lafayette's journey. After its visit here, the Hermione made the return trip across the Atlantic and was greeted with a hero's welcome on its return home.
A modern French frigate escorted the Hermione along with a number of private craft.
