KAIKOURA, New Zealand — A New Zealand man is not sure what he did to deserve it, but he's sure he'll never forget it. A sea lion leaped from the ocean to slap him in the face with an octopus -- and it was all captured on video.
Kyle Mulinder posted the video on Facebook Tuesday and it has since gone viral.
In an interview, he told Yahoo News that the seal had been spotted earlier thrashing around with the octopus for long period of time and then disappeared.
"He thrashed it in mid-fight and my face happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time," Mulinder told Yahoo.
Despite the attempt by the seal to kill the octopus, Mulinder said that it was unharmed and clung to the kayak until a fellow kayaker could help release it.
A longer video was released showing the clinging octopus.
