IKEA says it'll replace all lighting on its shelves with LED bulbs beginning September first.
The company says it'll sell only LED bulbs as part of its overall sustainability efforts.
IKEA had planned a major investment in compact fluorescent lights, but redirected it toLEDs.
Compact fluorescents currently outsell LEDs in the United States.
LEDs are more expensive, but those who favor them say they offer better light quality.
They're estimated to use 85% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs.
IKEA claims to have saved consumers about $3 billion in energy costs from LED bulbs it's sold in the past few years.
