Inmate Killed In Fight At Fayette County Prison ID'd

UNIONTOWN, Pa.,None — A county detective has identified an inmate killed during an altercation at the Fayette County Prison.

Fayette County Detective Lawrence Curry identified the victim as Clifford Meeks, 52, of Republic, according to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE. Officials said Meeks died of a "cardiovascular event."

The inmate was pronounced dead at Uniontown Hospital Sunday night.

Meeks was serving a six-month sentence imposed in October for violating a protection from abuse order, according to court records.

State police said they've turned over the investigation to District Attorney Jack Heneks, who has declined to comment on the nature of the incident. But Heneks' secretary said he plans a news release after an autopsy is conducted.

Officials have not said if the other prisoner involved in the fight was injured.
