Crucial repairs are being made at the Sheldon Park apartments in Natrona Heights after Channel 11 started asking questions.

Residents reached out to Channel 11 because of concerns about leaks, mold and holes that expose wires.

The apartments are run by the Allegheny County Housing Authority.

Once Channel 11 started making calls, repair crews showed up to the public housing property.

The hole in Jamie Powell's children's bedroom has been getting bigger over the last two years, exposing wires and what she says is dangerous black mold.

"I was afraid that the pillows or blankets would go in there and something would catch fire," Powell said. "It snows in my kitchen. The door it's supposed to be straight, but it's on a slant."

She, and other Sheldon Park residents, say they've complained to the property manager about problems and even called downtown, but nothing gets fixed.

"They tell us there no funding," Powell said.

Friday morning, after Channel 11 made calls, crews and the Executive Director of the Allegheny County Housing Authority came out to see the damage for themselves and start making repairs.

The Housing Authority Executive Director told Channel 11 the agency isn't neglecting the apartments. A $5 million renovation was just completed.

He said the property manager said she was not aware of the problems.

Another resident, Elaina Ward, told Channel 11 her kitchen cabinet was broken before she moved in and damage from a fire two years ago was also reported.

"She's full of it," Ward said. "I would like to see a different property manager who actually cares about us."

Maintenance calls should go through this toll free number, 1-888-304-2242, according to the Allegheny County Housing Authority Executive Director.

He adds that those calls don't go through the property manager, but she can assist if needed.
