ATLANTA — Neighborhood children broke into a National Guard warehouse in southeast Atlanta and went joyriding in the Army trucks there, authorities said.
"They were getting into the vehicles at the National Guard Center, starting them up and joyriding them through the compound, and I had heard at one point they were jumping the vehicles 'Dukes of Hazzard' style,'" said Dean Handley who lives near the center.
Neighbors said the children are elementary students between 8 and 11 years old.
They were eventually caught while throwing rocks at cars off a train trestle, authorities said.
The children are charged with criminal damage to property, trespassing and entering a vehicle.

"We actually had an employee who was just doing patrol and stumbled upon them and called the authorities," said Lt. Col. Tiffany Sneed, of the Georgia National Guard.
They found one truck smashed into a tree and another in a ditch, Sneed said.
There were nine damaged vehicles in all. The total cost of the damage is still being calculated.
