New jailhouse recordings of Kimberly Kessler released

Our sister station, Action News Jax, has obtained new jailhouse recordings in the case of missing Jacksonville, Florida, mother of three Joleen Cummings.

It's been one year since Cummings was reported missing on Mother's Day weekend after she failed to pick up her children. Her disappearance sparked an investigation that would get national attention.

Kimberly Kessler, a former coworker of Cummings at Tangles Hair Salon is suspected of killing her. Sheriff's deputies said evidence they found in and around the salon points to Kessler.

Kessler is originally from Butler County, Pennsylvania, but was living in Florida under the name Jennifer Sybert, which authorities believe she took from a woman who died decades ago and is buried in a Butler cemetery.

In jailhouse phone calls to her mother, Kessler denies the accusations against her. She told her mother she doesn't know what happened to Cummings.

"I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I didn’t do anything, I had nothing to do with it, I have no idea like what they’re doing," Kessler said in one of the calls.

Kessler believes her arrest is part of a conspiracy.

"Oh, somebody must be pulling strings to keep you there," Connie Kessler said.

Kimberly Kessler replied, "Well yeah, so it’s Paula. Her name is Paula and she is (expletive) buddies with, um, what’s her name's stepdad who has cancer in the (crudity) or whatever. Um, she’s buddies with him and she’s running Nassau County Jail. I guess right now or she’s one of the people doing it."

Cummings' body has never been found.
