Local gym owner says memberships hit hard by pandemic

PITTSBURGH — Fit Body Boot Camp in Cranberry, just like all gyms across Pennsylvania, has been closed for weeks, just like very other gym and fitness center across the state.

Nicholas Alouise, the owner, told Channel 11 he is struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic. Dozens of members have canceled memberships and others have frozen their accounts because of financial difficulties.

“How many times have I wanted to sit down at cry? Almost daily,” Alouise said.

He’s launched virtual workouts, just like other gyms like Pure Barre, Planet Fitness and Orangetheory. But he said the governor’s reopening plan means he won’t be able to open the doors anytime soon.

“When you lose your revenue and cut it in thirds in 30 days, it’s rough. It’s hard,” Alouise said.

He said he already has plans in place for strict cleaning when the day does come he’ll be able to open.
