PITTSBURGH — A Beechview man is behind bars at the Allegheny County Jail for a deadly shooting on Banksville Road that court papers say was captured on camera.
The suspect, Connor Makstutis, 23, is charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 34-year-old Richard Derkach.
It was Monday just before 5 p.m. when Pittsburgh police responded to several 911 calls about a shooting in the area of Banksville Road and Crane Avenue.
According to the criminal complaint, the city camera recorded a silver pickup truck, registered to Makstutis, stopped at the intersection — when a minivan pulled up behind.
Court papers say Derkach approached the truck and talked to the driver, then was seen wincing backward and turning to run.
First responders found Derkach in the vehicle — shot in the chest. He died a short time later at the hospital.
Police have not yet said what the motive was for the shooting.
