• Death of 13-month-old who drowned in bathtub ruled accidental

WHITE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Family and friends are mourning the death of a 13-month-old boy who drowned in a bathtub in Indiana County Saturday night.

The coroner said Ryden Thomas Jr. drowned while in the bathtub with his 2- and 3-year-old siblings in his home along Roush Drive in White Township. Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said the death was accidental.

According to the coroner’s release, emergency personnel responded to the child’s residence after a call was placed to the Indiana County 911 center just before 8 p.m. when Thomas was found by his mother to be unresponsive in the bathtub.

“He was a very sweet baby,” neighbor Misti Sadler said of Ryden. “He was a happy little guy and he loved to smile. He loved looking you in the eye and being held. He was very happy, playful and sweet.”

The child’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at Richard Shoemaker Funeral Home in Blairsville. His family asked that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the funeral home to help pay for funeral expenses.

Thomas’ death remains under investigation, and police haven’t said if any charges will be filed.
