120 out of work after TransCare files for bankruptcy, closes Monroeville facility

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — About 120 people locally are now out of work after TransCare filed for bankruptcy last week, forcing its Monroeville facility to close.

Other ambulance and transport companies have managed to pick up much of the work left behind by TransCare.

Employees told Channel 11 News on Monday that there have been warning signs for months.

“They all kept on saying it was going to be OK. It wasn't okay,” former TransCare employee Jeremy Roadman said. “It's sad for the veterans and these patients who depend on us quite a bit.”

The VA Hospital was TransCare’s largest contract. Workers told Channel 11 News that hints of financial troubles surfaced in the summer when some received no pay for two weeks.

“What they called a ‘banking’ error, and they didn't know when it was going to be corrected,” former employee Kevin Hendrick said. “I suspect they didn't have the funds to make payroll.”

Last week, other TransCare locations entered Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

In an internal email obtained by Channel 11 News, officials were attempting to break off from the parent company, assuring workers that their jobs were safe. A manager wrote: "As an employee of one of these businesses, everything will be business as usual for you. We believe that through these restructuring efforts we have been able to save 700 jobs.”

“I kind of thought it was coming, because earlier that week, our sister station got shut down, and they tried to keep us open. We were like the money makers of the company,” Roadman said.

Calls and emails to attorneys listed for TransCare were not returned Monday.
