Victim in pool hall shooting remains serious; Search for gunmen continues

PITTSBURGH — Police are searching for two men who held up a pool hall and jitney station and shot the owner Tuesday night.

Authorities said they responded to the Duke and Duchess Billiards in the 6500 block of Frankstown Avenue around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a man being shot in the stomach.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they discovered that there had been a robbery.

According to police, two men entered the establishment with guns and demanded money from the approximately five people inside at the time. They also allegedly shot the owner, who was in the back room, in the stomach.

“They both had guns. They asked everyone to hand over their money and they went into the second room, in the back, where the pool room is, and shot the owner in the stomach one time,” said Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

Paramedics took that man to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Police said the gunmen are both about 6 feet tall and have full beards. They are believed to be in their 20s or 30s.

“They were looking for money. They were saying, ‘Hand us your cash,’” Toler said.
