8-year-old girl dragged by school bus in Lawrence Co.

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An 8-year-old girl returned to school Friday one day after getting her backpack caught in the school bus door and being dragged about 200 feet in Lawrence County.

According to emergency dispatchers, the incident occurred just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Blue Jay Avenue and Raymond Street in Perry Township.

State police said the little girl was exiting the bus, and as the doors were closing, they got caught on her backpack. The bus driver went on to the next stop before finally noticing the girl was stuck.

Emergency crews treated the girl for minor injuries. Her father said she returned to school Friday.

The bus company, Ellwood City Transit, and the 46-year-old bus driver haven’t commented on the incident.

The accident is under investigation.
