Attorney for bride accused of fatally shooting niece: 'This was an accident'

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. — The attorney for the bride accused of fatally shooting her niece talked exclusively to Channel 11 on Tuesday.

Christina George was arrested on her wedding night last week.  Police said she shot Katelyn Francis outside a New Brighton bar.

"This was a tragedy.  This was an accident.  She didn't even know that the gun went off and hit and killed Katy," said defense attorney Steve Colafella.

According to police, the wedding party was fighting over who would be the designated driver.

Channel 11 has learned that George is a nurse and mother.

Colafella said Francis' family invited George's family to the funeral.

"She (George) is in mourning," said Colafella.
