Browns name Deshaun Watson starting quarterback

The Cleveland Browns are giving Deshaun Watson one more chance.

Cleveland has officially named Watson its starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, beating out second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders for the job. Watson and Sanders had been competing throughout training camp and the preseason, but new Browns head coach Todd Monken will open the season with the veteran under center.

For Watson, it could very well be his final opportunity to make things work in Cleveland. Since joining the Browns, Watson has been one of the most polarizing players in football, and very little about his tenure has gone the way Cleveland envisioned when it made one of the biggest investments in NFL history to acquire him.

The Browns sent Houston a massive package of draft capital, including three first-round picks, before handing Watson a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract. ˇTo say that investment has not paid off would be a drastic understatement.
