BUTLER, Pa. — A Butler County man is behind bars after a standoff with police Sunday.
“We’ve had trouble with him for a long time,” one neighbor told Channel 11.
This trouble started when police said a man called and said Keith Barnes pointed a gun at him and his five-year-old boy while they were walking from West Brady Street onto Mercer Street. Barnes allegedly said he was going to shoot them.
Neighbors who spoke with Channel 11’s Andrew Havranek did not want to be shown on camera.
“The neighbor comes out and they were screaming at each other, and I said, that’s not good for the little boy,” a neighbor said.
Police said they got on scene, and an officer told Barnes he needed to talk with him. That’s when police said Barnes grabbed what appeared to be an orange and black AR-15-style rifle, ran into his house and shut the door. Police then surrounded the home.
“Most people don’t act like that,” the neighbor said.
Barnes surrendered to police and was taken into custody. He’s still in the Butler County Jail.
Police got a search warrant for the home and found the orange and black rifle, which police said was a paintball gun.
Neighbors said this isn’t the only issue they’ve had with Barnes.
“He stands out on the sidewalk, and he yells at people walking up and down,” the neighbor said. “He doesn’t know them. He just yells derogatory remarks to them.”
That neighbor said her landlord even built a fence between that apartment building and Barnes’ home because of alleged harassment.
Police said the father told them his 5-year-old is shaken after this latest incident and may need counseling.
Barnes is due in court next week.
