CDC updates mask guidelines, Pittsburgh school students will still wear them

PITTSBURGH — When Pittsburgh Public School students go to school on Monday, they’ll still be wearing masks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that masks don’t have to be worn in schools in areas that don’t have high Covid-19 transmission rates.

According to new data from the CDC, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Beaver, Butler and Armstrong counties are all in low transmission areas.

Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence and Mercer are in medium transmission areas.

Under the latest CDC guidance, masks aren’t recommended in any of those areas, in schools or in public, because they aren’t at the “high” level.
