O'HARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The power of organ donation united strangers in O’Hara Township.
Sunday, around 2,500 organ and tissue donors in Western Pennsylvania were honored for their gifts that helped save lives and give new opportunities to recipients.
The Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) holds the ceremony every year, giving donors’ families a chance to tell their stories.
“We are privileged every day to honor someone’s wishes to be a donor, and to support their families,” CORE President Debra Maurer said. “Today allows us to bring all of those individuals together in what is a profoundly special community.”
Event organizers called on everyone to consider becoming an organ donor, saying one donor can save up to eight lives and provide new opportunities for hundreds more.
