Channel 11 gets insight into evidence against mother and son charged in college student’s death

Channel 11 is getting a first look at evidence in the case of a local soccer star’s murder.

This release of some evidence comes a day after Royce Moser and his mom, Rachel, appeared in court. Royce is accused of killing his girlfriend, Karoline Heintz, and investigators say his mom tried to help him cover up the crime.

Prosecutors showed a picture of who they say is Royce Moser and his mother, Rachel, conspiring inside of his bedroom just a few hours after investigators say he murdered his girlfriend, Karoline Heintz.

In the photo, you can see Royce wearing latex gloves — that police say were provided by his mother after he confessed to her that he killed Karoline.

Channel 11 was there yesterday as the mother-and-son duo walked into their preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors presented a detailed timeline of the night Karoline was stabbed to death, plus multiple photos of their evidence, including a picture of the butcher knife that police say Royce used to kill her.

The night of the murder, detectives testified that Royce asked Karoline to stop at his house on her way back to college for a “hug and a kiss.”

When she got there, Royce told a detective that she “said something he didn’t like” — then told her he was going inside to get something for her. That’s when he came out with the knife, and allegedly stabbed her and put her body in the back of her Jeep.

Then —Royce apparently made multiple calls to his mother, who police say gave him the gloves, washed his bloody clothes, then directed him to bring Karoline’s Jeep back to PennWest California’s campus as she led the way in her own car.

Prosecutors also presented evidence from Royce’s phone during his hearing. They showed a number of Google searches he allegedly made after the murder, including “What removes fingerprints from objects and “What if a demon controlled you and you murdered someone?”
