CLAIRTON, Pa. — The principal of Clairton Elementary School was hospitalized Thursday morning after trying to break up a fight between several high school students.
Superintendent Wayde Killmeyer told Channel 11's Alan Jennings that Magi Berger was trying to break up a fight Thursday around noon between several students outside her school when she was injured.
Officers arrived quickly and were able to control the fight before it got out of hand, Killmeyer said.
Killmeyer said Berger was taken to the hospital for observation and released within an hour. He said she wasn't badly injured.
Clairton police are now investigating the situation.
Anita Brown lives near the school and said fights among students are a growing problem.
"Instead of going home after school, a lot of them congregate, and a lot of times you'll see them scuffling back and forth with each other," Brown said.
Brown said she's glad school is out for the summer and hopes her property won't be damaged anymore.
