BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — The Beaver County Sheriff said he is standing his ground and will continue to provide private security at area high school football games despite a recent ruling by county leaders.
A judge granted an injuction last week that was suppposed to stop deputies from doing any private security work.
“I made a commitment to the kids and to the school that we would be here so thay could play football,” said Sheriff George David.
Channel 11’s Timyka Artist was with David Friday night as he provided security at the South Side Beaver vs. Shenango football game.
“If we’re not here they can’t play ball because WPIAL rules say there has to be security,” David said.
Supporters have accused county commissioners of showing more concern about money than the safety of the students and fans.
“I don’t think it’s so much the kids that know eachother, but when you get two schools together in an atmosphere like this, you definitley need some crowd control,” said parent Charlotte Spence. “I’m hoping that the commissioners see their way to let things go the way they have been for the last 49 years.”
David said if the injuction stands, his deputies will continue providing security at games. David said he made a promise and a commitment and he’s not going back on his word.
