Dr. Cyril Wecht: Wilkinsburg girl, 3, likely died from suffocation

PITTSBURGH — One of the country’s top forensic pathologists is weighing in on the death of 3-year-old girl found in the woods in Swissvale, and he is saying the death is a probable case of suffocation.

Dr. Cyril Wecht spoke to Channel 11's Alan Jennings Wednesday and said the body of Adrionna Williams was likely placed in the woods by someone who is familiar with the area.

“This is a terrible case and I believe that it’s somebody that most likely knew this family,” Wecht said. “I think it’s somebody who knows the territory.”

Williams’ body was found face up and fully clothed in the secluded woods. The location isn’t far from the Wilkinsburg home she allegedly disappeared from.

Police are handling the case as murder in the first degree, and homicide detectives are investigating.

In addition, the medical examiner’s office is continuing with a battery of personal and toxicology tests to learn more about the case.

There are currently no suspects in the case.
