PITTSBURGH — Fort Pitt beer will be back on the market later this summer.
Duquesne Brewing Co., which makes Duquesne Pilsener, said today it will introduce a specialty lager with the long-dormant name in August. The brew "will take you back to a time when quality, tradition and taste reigned supreme," the Upper St. Clair-based company said.
Fort Pitt Brewing Co. was a major Pittsburgh area brewer with plants in Sharpsburg and Jeannette, but closed in 1958. Other producers made the beer later, and last year Duquesne President Mark J. Dudash and Jones Brewing Co. of Smithton, which owns Stoney's beer, were arguing over who had the rights to begin producing Fort Pitt again.
Duquesne also said today it is introducing a low-calorie version of the pilsener, Duquesne LT. It will be available in bottles starting July 1, the company said.
