Families displaced after fire destroys several apartments in Robinson Twp.

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighters faced a tough battle Saturday afternoon as flames destroyed several apartment units at a complex in Robinson Township.

Moon Run Fire Chief Paul Kashmer said the fire started on a back deck and quickly spread to the roof of the Ventana Hills Apartment Complex around 4:20 p.m.

“We came out of our screen door and noticed that the building had become engulfed in flames. Looked like it started maybe on the second floor and it just became bigger and bigger and got up to the second floor and flames started bursting through the roof,” said Gary Warner, a witness to the fire.

Kashmer said one firefighter suffered a minor injury when he got caught under a partial roof collapse.

The Red Cross is providing several families with food, clothing and a place to stay after the fire destroyed their apartments.

Firefighters said they were called back to the scene late Saturday night when the flames rekindled.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
