CONNEAUT, Pa. — Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of a massive fire that destroyed the Beach Club, at Conneaut Lake Park.
Crawford County emergency dispatchers said some fire crews were beginning to pack up and leave the scene more than five hours after the fire was first reported around about 2:20 a.m. Thursday.
The financially struggling park is home to the Blue Streak, one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in America, and is the focus of a weeklong makeover that is being recorded as part of a possible program for the Travel Channel.
The Beach Club is an entertainment complex that opened in 1936 at the park. The club and a neighboring pavilion were burned in the fire, the cause of which remained under investigation.
“I’m sad and just devastated,” one witness said. “I just can’t believe this would happen.”
There were no reports of injuries.
