Former Amazon site in Churchill scheduled to go up for auction amid tight market for retail space

In September 2020, six months into an assumption-destroying pandemic, the council of Churchill Borough held a Zoom meeting to hear the results of a planning process to consider what could be the future for the more than 130-acre former George Westinghouse Research Park, then poised for a $300 million Amazon distribution facility.

Jim Pashek, of North Side-based planning firm Pashek+MTR, the firm hired at the time for the planning assignment, offered a forecast of what the other prospects might be instead of a massive warehousing operation.

“I have to say my intuition is there’s going to be less demand for retail,” he said.
