Former PTO president accused of pocketing $23K

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — A former president of the parent teacher organization at a Bethel Park middle school is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the PTO’s bank account.

According to police, Heidi Schnupp is accused of pocketing and forging signatures worth about $23,000 when she was the president of the PTO at Neil Armstrong Middle School.

Authorities said Schnupp, 42, apologized and admitted to the crime Friday when she turned herself in.

According to the criminal complaint, Schnupp told police that she was bi-polar and was off her medication during the time that she was president of the PTO.

“I’m very sorry,” Schnupp said as she was led out of the district court.

According to court documents, Schnupp said she used the stolen money to pay bills, buy groceries and, as she stated, buy stupid stuff.

Judge Robert Wyda set Schnupp’s bond at $5,000. She is charged with theft and forgery, and will be back in court on June 3 for her preliminary hearing.
