PAT bus lifted out of ravine three days after Pittsburgh bridge collapse

PITTSBURGH — CitiParks Pittsburgh announced that Frick Park was open again after Friday’s Fern Hollow Bridge collapse as crews worked to start lifting the Port Authority bus and other vehicles from the wreckage.

The bridge, which was built in 1970, ran over Frick Park and collapsed into a ravine.

Although the park at large will reopen, certain sections of it will remain closed off as investigations and cleanup efforts continue. Tranquil Trail will remain closed within a 100 yard perimeter of the collapse site, according to CitiParks. Sections outside of the perimeter are now open.

CitiParks also said Undercliff Trail will remain closed completely.

The trails that will remain open include Clayton Loop, Biddle Trail and Homewood Trail.

A public observation area was set up on the Squirrel Hill side of the bridge as dozens of people stopped by to take a look at the sight.

Monday afternoon, a massive crane got into position and crews hooked up the bus to lift it out of the ravine.
