PITTSBURGH — For the second year in a row, 100.7 Star radio host Flick is braving the cold to draw attention to homelessness in the city of Pittsburgh.
The radio station partnered with the the Salvation Army, Highwoods Properties, Highmark and other sponsors to raise awareness of family homelessness through the "Man in a Box" campaign.
Flick, who normally spends his days broadcasting from the studio, will continue to live in a small box situated at Highwoods Properties' PPG Place for 12 hours a day through Friday.
"Living in a 4 foot x 8 foot Plexiglas box 12 hours a day and staying in a homeless shelter at night was not easy, but it's nothing compared to challenges that people who are actually homeless face day in and day out,” Flick said. “If doing this for three days again this year helps to educate and inspire more people to help, it's more than worth it."
During the three days, Flick will have minimal shelter and heat and will only eat the same food provided to the homeless by The Salvation Army.
"The issue of homelessness is serious and deserves everyone's attention and compassion," said William Bode, divisional commander of the Salvation Army's Western PA Division.
Funds will be raised through corporate donations, onsite kettle collections and online donations made via www.starpittsburgh.com or www.wpa.salvationarmy.org.
