Local teacher critically injured in Whitehall hit-and-run

WHITEHALL, Pa. — A local teacher was critically injured in a hit-and-run in Whitehall on Monday.

Police said Anthony Posa, 28, was driving on Route 51 near the intersection with Borough Park Drive Monday morning when another driver crashed into him, causing his vehicle to crash into a utility pole.

“I heard tires screeching and then a loud bang,” Bob Cosgrove said. Cosgrove works at a car dealership on Route 51 near the scene of the crash and called 911.

“I went up and looked in the car and the guy looked really bad. I said, ‘Get somebody here fast,’” Cosgrove said.

Investigators said Posa was seriously hurt and is listed in critical condition at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

According to family members, Posa and his wife have a newborn daughter who is 11 days old.

Posa is a teacher and was set to return to work after summer break this week.

Investigators said witnessed described the car fleeing the scene as a red Ford Explorer or Escape. The car that was involved likely has front end damage, police said.

Whitehall police Chief Donald Dolfi said investigators have surveillance video of the accident that they hope to use in their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
