Man charged in deadly Homestead shooting

A man has been charged in a deadly shooting last month in Homestead.

First responders were called to the 600 block of Amity Street at 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 18.

Andrew Lenhart, 43, was found in the area, having been shot multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, but died Sept. 22.

Thursday, Allegheny County police announced that Dejahne Neal, 24, had been arrested and charged with criminal homicide in connection with the shooting.

Detectives determined that Lenhart had gotten into an altercation with Neal outside a Sixth Street restaurant, ACPD says.

Court records obtained by Channel 11 show that Neal and a female were at a picnic table outside Rogue BBQ. Lenhart allegedly approached them and began assaulting Neal, punching him in the face and hitting him in the head with a shower rod.

Neal responded by pulling out a gun and shooting at Lenhart, who was starting to run away, records say.

Lenhart was shot in the chest, back and legs.

Detectives reportedly used surveillance video and leasing documents to identify Neal as the suspect.

Records note that Neal purchased a Glock 9mm handgun in September 2023, and that 9mm rounds were recovered at the shooting scene.

Neal is being held in the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.
