Man confined to wheelchair struck, dragged by tractor-trailer

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man confined to a wheelchair was hit and dragged by a tractor-trailer in Harrison Township Monday.

The accident happened around noon outside a senior-citizen high-rise near the Heights Plaza, which is under construction following a fire in December.

People have been forced to walk along an access road instead of a sidewalk while the shopping center is rebuilt, creating safety concerns for residents of the high-rise.

Dave Schultz, the man who was hit by the truck, is recovering from broken bones in his foot.

Schultz and his wife told Channel 11 News that he and his wife stopped so an 18-wheeler could make a left turn. While the truck was navigating the turn, it hit and dragged Dave.

“The area that was safe kept getting smaller and smaller, until he clipped me and spun me around,” Schultz said.

Borough leaders said they’ve received several calls concerning safety in the area, and they’re looking into it.

Work is expected to continue throughout the year, and officials urge anyone who has to walk along Broadview Boulevard to be especially careful.
