McKEES ROCKS, Pa. — A home that caught fire in McKees Rocks Tuesday morning is just one example of problems that the borough has been having with structure fires.
Investigators believe that several recent fires in the borough are cases of arson. Vacant homes are a common target.

The borough is teaming up with the McKees Rocks community development corporation to fill empty houses and recreate the image of the neighborhood, while also cutting down on crime.
“The best defense is a good offense. If we can turn one of these homes into an owner-occupied place instead of becoming a potential liability for the neighborhood it becomes a great asset again,” said Taris Vrcek of the McKees Rocks Community Development Corp.
CSX Corp. will begin construction on a $60 million intermodal facility in McKees Rocks Monday. Officials hope that the project will bring more jobs and more permanent residents.
McKees Rocks Councilman David Rugh said he remembers a time when all of the houses on Grove Street were nice.
"It would be unbelievable if we can get these back and make the whole street the way it used to be,” Rugh said.
