SPRINGDALE, Pa. — A mini mart in Allegheny County cannot serve food after it was issued a consumer alert this week.
The Allegheny County Health Department issued a consumer alert against Springdale Mini Mart and the Chester’s Chicken restaurant inside on Thursday. The facility is located on Pittsburgh Street in Springdale.
Inspectors provided two main reasons for the restriction: the facility’s inability to properly wash, rinse and sanitize dishes, and a malfunctioning walk-in cooler.
The inspection report details that the three-bowl sink appears clogged and does not drain.
The walk-in cooler, which was reportedly serviced the day before the inspection, had an ambient air temperature of around 47 degrees farenheight. Foods inside the cooler were also measured at unsafe temperatures, including raw chicken, cheeses, packaged deli meats and pizza sauce.
Other violations inspectors noticed include foods held past the use-by date, no probe thermometer and inadequate water dispensing for proper handwashing.
Until the consumer alert is removed, the facility cannot prepare or serve any foods. It can only sell pre-packaged foods.
The facility has 10 days to fix the sink and cooler, or it could be ordered closed.
