The plan to merge 11 Mon Valley police department communications to one radio channel has been put on hold.
The merge was supposed to take place on May 5, but Clairton police confirm to Channel 11 that it’s now on hold until further review.
Two channels that handle a number of neighborhoods, like McKeesport, Clairton, White Oak, and Port Vue, are planned to merge into one.

The reason, in part, is because of low staffing.
With the change, call takers and dispatchers in that zone will be handling an increase of calls and routing officers in those communities.
That means call-takers and dispatchers will be answering emergency calls and routing police officers for 11 different departments on the merged channel.
Some local police chiefs think that could delay response times for officers.
