Students will soon return to class in person at Monessen Middle-High School.
Classes have been remote all school year so far because mold was found in the building over the summer.
In a letter sent to families of the district on Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Robert Motte said that a structural engineer confirmed the mold issues have been resolved and the environment is safe.
Now, the district can start transitioning teachers and students back into their classrooms. That transition will be done in phases.
“We deeply appreciate the patience, flexibility, and resilience shown by our students, families, and staff throughout this transition,” Motte’s letter read. “Our priority remains delivering a safe, supportive, and modern learning environment for our Greyhound community.”
First, office and support staff return to administrative spaces, and custodial staff will resume summer maintenance.
Then, teachers and instructional staff can come back to unpack and set up learning spaces.
Next, the district will hold an open house for families of the district before finally, students return to class in person.
Students’ return is currently scheduled for Nov. 16, but Motte says the timeline could change.
